Mole removal for cosmetic reasons

I know I can't get it done free on NHS - anybody paid for a mole to be removed purely for cosmetic reasons? How much did it set you back?

i had the one on my face done free under the nhs. why won't they let you? I had it done at my surgery

I was told that becuse it's a "normal looking mole" they won't remove it on the nhs for free. How long ago did you have yours removed?

i had one removed on my back for free on nhs

about 8 months. i just hated it, and it was quite large. they shaved it off with a razor and then cauterised it. I took about 5 minutes. tell them it's making you unhappy etc, milk it a bit

Sort of on jaw line maybe a couple of inches under my ear. Horrid and pretty big.

I had one removed from a similar position to yours on the NHS. I told them I kept catching it with my nails when putting make up on. And with my brush when doing my hair.

Tell them you catch it and make it bleed quite often.

My GP did mine in the surgery. I had to wait a couple of months, but the op itself only took about two minutes. Well worth it.

Ok thanx, think I'll try that. Also ds DOES keep examining it with great interest and sharp nails!!

Tell them that it is itching. That should be enough to get them to remove it on the NHS.

It will leave a fairly long scar.

themoon66 · 04/02/2007 17:43

Mine hasn't left a scar at all

SoupDragon · 04/02/2007 20:07

I have about an inch long scar on my neck from a mole removal. It's longer than the mole wasbut less noticeab;e

I have a scar on my arm from mole removal. It's not noticeable because it is on my inner forearm, but would be very noticeable on my face. I wouldn't let a gp do a mole there. I'd want a cosmetic surgeon. But then I do have a tendency to develop keloid scarring.
