God, I don't really know where to start.

This is going to get TMI at some point so I do apologise.

My DD2 is 10 weeks old, i started taking my pill following my 6 week check on 8th January - my GP said I was fine to start taking pill straight away as long as I was sure I hadn't had a period since DD2's birth, which I hadn't. Started taking pill that day but then got put on a course of antibiotics so GP recommended running 2 packets back to back - however, before I had finished the first packet I started spotting slightly (this was on Thursday of last week), by Tuesday this week it had turned into a full blown period so started using a tampon but still continued with my pill.
This thursday I had a bit of a funny turn, went very hot, light headed, dissy, sick - had to sit down as I thought I was going to pass out, although this passed after 10 minutes. Yesterday I was in tears with my period pains, had to take nuerofen my stomach was hurting that much - never felt period pains like it.
Last night when removing my tampon I noticed a huge clot and something that looked odd, so I poked at it and it was a long (maybe 3/4 inches) piece of something, it was clearish sort of like a mucusy colour but when I squished it between toilet roll it was quite hard, like you would imagine a vein to be.
I know it is gross but I showed it to DH and he questioned whether I was maybe pregant and rather than this being a period maybe I had miscarried without even realising I was pregnant. I tried not to think about it too much as I was just really confused. When I went to the toilet this morning the same thing happened, roughly the same size, same type of thing.

I just don't know what to think - could I have miscarried without even knowing I was pregnant? Could it be something retained after having DD ?

Whatever it is, itis definitely not right - they were like huge lumps of body tissues. I'm so confused

ring them yes.
its not good to have retained products as it means that the womb cant contract down properly and therefore is more suseptable to infection and bleeding.

FoghornLeghorn · 05/02/2007 21:13

Have called. They were absolutely astonished at what GP had said. Have 2 options, can either sit and wait in A&E tonight to be referred over to Gynae ward to wait til morning to get referal letter from GP and go straight onto Gynae ward.
They said they will need to do a scan and maybe a procedure to remove anything remaining and maybe anti b's.

I am going to sit it out for tonight unless it gets any worse as I don't really want to be in there over night. Will call GP's first thing for letter then head off to Hospital.

Thanks for all your advice, there is noway I would've really questioned what GP had said otherwise.

have been watching this thread. Hope all goes well for tomorrow

lulumama · 05/02/2007 21:18

goodness me ! at the GP..if you get worse overnight,go straight to a&e..otherwise, hope it is ok when you go tomorrow xxx

FoghornLeghorn · 05/02/2007 21:19

I know . I just took what she said as gospel, would not have questioned it at all if it wasn't for SIL saying something defo wasn't right.

Been sat on Gynae ward for an age today just to be told it's normal and will sort itself out. Didn't even check my temperature.

So

OP posts:
ghosty · 06/02/2007 17:58

.... so did they let you home Foghorn? Without taking your temperature? How are you feeling?

FoghornLeghorn · 06/02/2007 18:09

Yep am home now - they didn't check a thing apart from my urine. What a complete waste of time.

Feel pretty weak really, keep going quite lightheaded and generally just feel pretty ropey.
Will give it a few more days and then go private if no better.

lulumama · 06/02/2007 18:28

WTF? you present with heavy bleeding, clots, feeling dizzy and ill and having not long since had a baby.....and they check your urine???????? i am really really suprised

DimpledThighs · 06/02/2007 19:12

WTF as well - that sounds wrong to me!

DimpledThighs · 06/02/2007 19:12

would go straight to GP tomorrow at the very least.

FoghornLeghorn · 06/02/2007 19:33

On call Gynae said today it couldn't be retained product as I wouldn't have stopped bleeding at 4-5 weeks after DD's birth like I did. She said I would've either carried on bleeding or would've had an infection by now.

She seriously done nothing else apart from test my urine to rule out a lost pregnancy, didn't even ask about temperature or anything. Absolutely f'ing useless

OP posts:
lulumama · 06/02/2007 19:34

ok, so she said what it isn;t, but she hasn;t said what it is !! am really suprised

DimpledThighs · 06/02/2007 19:39

don't go private - go back to GP and tell him/her about the temperature and the weakness - if you are worried you should get this checked out.

FoghornLeghorn · 06/02/2007 19:41

Thing is, if I go back to GP she will just send me to hospital again which means I wont get any different answers to what I got today, whereas if I go privagte I go to a different hospital and see a different gynae

OP posts:
ghosty · 06/02/2007 21:15

Only a scan will determine retained products.

WTF is wrong with these people?

Foghorn, please go back to the GP ... I am worried about you

lulumama · 06/02/2007 21:20

yes, but going private will take few days, won;t it!

DimpledThighs · 06/02/2007 23:05

just say you feel worse and you need more than a urine test - I cannot believe that if you turn up at gynae again they will just do the same tests.

Make out how bad it seems to us on here - don't be fobbed off.

mears · 06/02/2007 23:19

FoghornLeghorn - what you are describing does not sound like retained products to me - it sounds more like a horrendously heavy first period possibly complcated by the back to back pills and antibiotics. Antibiotics can affect the way the pill works so your hormones may be all over the place. There can be large pieces of the lining of the womb shed during heavy periods and that is probably what you have passed. You get terrible cramps with them which can make you feel light headed and ill. That in itself can cause a raised temperature.
I would take regular paracetamol and brufen over the next 2 days and just wait and see what happens. Using a tampon can make cramping worse in this type of situation so you may be best to use towels instead. I think you will find it will tail off over the next few days. Do go back to your GP though if it doesn't.

FoghornLeghorn · 07/02/2007 12:23

Thanks mears
i ws just getting so confused with GP saying one things, woman on telephone at gynae ward saying another then on call gynae saying something else. Seemed like they were just all bloody guessing.

I will do paracetamol etc for the next few days and see how things go.

DimpledThighs · 07/02/2007 14:08

how are you feeling today?

FoghornLeghorn · 08/02/2007 15:32

Still feeling pretty rough but more general exhaustion than dizzyness etc. Bleeding is still the same though, not letting up at all
