Strange circles on ds tongue! Any ideas?

ds1 is 2.2yrs. On and off I have noticed strange circles appearing on his tongue. He has three at the moment one the size of 5p and the others a 2p. They go from the top, round the side to underneath and are white round the edge and get darker to the inside. Just looks rather odd. He would tell me if he was uncomfortable, or they bothered him so I am not worried..... just wondering..... Any ideas what they are????

not sure if this is of any use, but there are heaps of threads on a condition called "geographical tongue". i vaguely remember it sounded similar to what you are saying.

gloworm - thank you. I have located the thread and the link to Dr Greene's site and that is EXACTLY was ds has - Geographical Tongue!! They describe it as white circles going to red in the middle. Mystery solved.

does it seem like something that can be cured?
is it causing him any problems?

EvanMom · 10/06/2004 11:13

No can't be cured - just recurs a lot. Not painful. Not bothersome. He won't even know it's there. The most common complaint of the tongue. Not very much known about what causes it. As the name suggests, the tongue looks like a map of islands. Isn't the Internet wonderful? No need for trip to doctor's (not that I was planning to as it seems pretty harmless...). Ta
