Sorry to hear that misdee, is there anyone who could watch the kids for a bit while you go and see him?

misdee · 09/06/2004 21:44

i'm gonna wait and see what clinic say. if they admit him to a ward (he is in a lot of pain) then i'll get my parents to come over to watch the kids whilst i take some essential in for him. it was quicker to get him a lift there first b4 trying to sort out a sitter.

Hulababy · 09/06/2004 21:45

Oh no misdee. I hope he is okay.

misdee · 09/06/2004 21:51

i hope so too. he has been a bit off the last few days but have put it down to the mixture of the hot weather and his meds. but he came in about 8pm, started coughing, and has been breathless and in pain since then.

misdee · 09/06/2004 22:12

well he is back. clinic says it is a chest infection, which can bring on flu like symptons. but i cant help thinking back to 2yrs ago when the gp kept wrongly dx him and turned out he was seriously ill.

Jimjams · 09/06/2004 22:54

very worrying misdee. Be glad he's home but if you get at all worried ring someone immediately.

misdee · 09/06/2004 22:58

can anyonwe make sense of this. i've been running it over in my mind since dh came in and told me what the clinic said and it seems wrong to me.
his chest is clear, but its a chest infection? his heartbeat is erratic, and his bp is low. (bp we can dismiss almost as side effects of his meds). but he is in pain. similar pain to what he had when he was 1st ill.

part of me will never trust docs completly again.

This doesnt sound like infection.Does he have a temperature? If he is no better soon go back

misdee · 09/06/2004 23:11

noddy, thank god your here. he seems a bit sweaty, but that has always been there since diagnosis. i am really not happy about it. they have given him antibiotics again. but if he still seems bad in the am i am sending him off to a+e

OP posts:
Janh · 09/06/2004 23:12

misdee, will they have had any idea of his medical history?

Janh · 09/06/2004 23:12

could you go with him and tell them?

misdee · 09/06/2004 23:14

yeah. we made it clear over the phone. most docs are shocked by it as its not that comman.
noddy, he doesnt seem to be running a temp at all, but is complaining he is cold.

I have a heart condition and some of the pills make me sweat at times but they don't make my heart race too.Is he dehydrated ?This can cause problems in cardiomyopathy patients.Lift the skin on the back of his hand if it goes back slowly start drinking water .Has it been v hot where you live?

misdee · 09/06/2004 23:18

it has been hot but he has been drinking plenty of water. i dont think i'll go and disturb him now as he is asleep, but will check his hand if possible b4 i go to sleep. noddy, your condition is slightly different from my dh's isnt it? hypertrophic (scuse the spelling) and dilated, but arent the symptons similar?

OP posts:
noddy5 · 09/06/2004 23:23

the symptoms are identical although they are different conditions. If he is unwell in the morning ring the cardiac dept and get seen.It is too risky to leave. What was he doing when the pain came on?I have had a few scary episodes when I have eaten too much which are a bit like what you are describing

misdee · 09/06/2004 23:31

he was sitting the chair. but before that he had been at his parents getting his dad to put the locking wheel nuts on the car.

How is he this morning, Misdee??

FWIW, they could only tell DS1s chest was congested via an xray - no cough, chest sounded clear, shallow breathing, hot/cold/pain in side and he had pneumonia which was sorted fairly rapidly by antibiotics. he never got a chesty cough at all. Obviously he doesn't have any of your DSs complications but just wanted to say you can have chest infections and have the chest sound clear.

luckymum · 10/06/2004 08:52

Misdee - how is he today? Ring the cardiologist if he's no better, if nothing else it will put your mind at rest

misdee · 10/06/2004 08:57

he seems a bit brighter this morning. but still isnt quite right. he didnt sleep well at all. he is just chilling out on the sofa looking at FHM and not doing much else.

OP posts:
SoupDragon · 10/06/2004 09:28

At least he's showed some improvement - htat's good. Maybe after a day of chilling out it will be come clearer if he's genuinely ill of if it's just a chest infection (IYSWIM!! I don't mean that he's faking it!)

misdee · 10/06/2004 11:52

he has gone back to sleep. bless him. sometimes it drives me amd when he is exhausted, even tho its not his fault, but i feel like i'm holding everyone together whilst falling apart myself.

I am sure my dp sometimes gets like that too I was huffing anfd puffing like an old woman when we went to vote this morning.Do you get to go out on your own or just have some space? My dp goes to work and I think that is probably a bit of peace for him.I have been ok recently but feel a bit off today.Really hope he gets help soon.Is he on the transplant list?

misdee · 10/06/2004 12:24

not on the list yet. they want to keep him on meds as long as possible.
i get most sundays off, as he takes the kids over to his mums, and i usually end up doing housework or sleeping all afternoon. i am about to go and take dd1 to nursery and leave him asleep. I am thinking of joining a fitness class at the leisure center over the rd, just to get me out the house for a few hrs each week, as long as the kids dont play up, i'm sure he'll cope.

I know several heart transplant patients and they all have a great life I really hope they put him on the list soon. When I was on kidney dialysis they were the same keeping me going to the last possible month on medication and to be honest that was worse than the transplant itself.transplant surgery is so good these days it will give you all a new life.I send my love to all of you we really know what its like.
