it can go swimming? I have a 2 year old who hasnt been swimming for ages and my dh is off for the weekend so thought it would be nice for us to go. I have a 3 month old baby who has only had 2 lots of his jabs. Do you think hell be ok to go swimming?

When I asked the official line was to wait until third set of jabs, but someone else said this is just a 'covering their backs' thing.

I think its up to the swimming pool. You can phone them and ask.

Some want all three sets of jabs done. SOme want one set done. SOme don't care.

Gingeme · 01/02/2007 20:41

Yes Ive always thought this too and have waited till third lot with my other sons but then thought 'can they catch measels, mumps, rubella or whatever from swimming?

wel my dds have never had any jabs. they are 2.5 and 4.9. they swam from 3-4 mo, with a little wet suit for warmth.

CountTo10 · 01/02/2007 20:41

As far as I am aware, a baby can go swimming the minute it is born. However, they advise you don't until you have the 3 rounds of jabs and have built their immune system up a bit. If it helps we took ds swimming at 3 mths with only one round of jabs and he was totally fine

Gingeme · 01/02/2007 20:42

Didnt think of that The Armadillo. Yes Ill ring the pool first.

Hes a big baby too so I think that will help. Do they do swimmers that small?

OP posts:
Nemo2007 · 01/02/2007 20:43

here they tend to say wait for first jabs

Gingeme · 01/02/2007 20:44

Oh sweet noonar. Yes Ill get him one. My other ds has one in blue.

The jabs thing is out of date advice according to the new immunisations booklet I've got. Have fun!

soph28 · 01/02/2007 20:50

the official line is they can go anytime, don't need jabs because they definitely can't catch any of those things from pools. However a newborn baby would probably get way too cold and would be highly likely to catch a cold! 3 months is fine, especially if he's big. I took both of mine from about 10 weeks. Just remember he probably won't be able to stay in longer than about 20 minutes (depending on how warm the pool is and how tough he is!)

Gingeme · 01/02/2007 20:51

Oh right Weaselmum. Ok made up my mind gonna take him on Sunday. Hope he enjoys it as much as he enjotys his baths. Thanks ladies. Wow cant believe how quickly you all answered.

make sure you know the pools policy for how many children to an adult in the water. All the ones round here insist on 1:1 for under 4's. Sorry to be the bearer of possibly bad news. Unless your taking another adult that is

Gingeme · 01/02/2007 20:58

marymoocow itll be me and dh with 2 ds's but thanks for that tip.

marymoocow · 01/02/2007 21:00

chocolatebirdy · 01/02/2007 21:02

Gingeme · 01/02/2007 21:02
