DS (14 months) has had a bought (sp) of oral thrush as he is really ill at the moment. Before I realised he had it we were sharing a spoon etc etc

Today I have developed a really bad buring feeling it my mouth and my tongue looks a little white.

Before I go and ask at the Tesco pharmacy for something to help it can someone firstly tell me if it's possible and secondly tell me if there is an over the counter remedy.

If it makes any difference I have been pretty ill this last week as well and it's my birthday tomorrow so I want this sorted out ASAP.

Dactarin oral is an over the counter med, and there is probably more like that...but that is what my ms always got when he had oral thrush.

ShinyHappyPeopleHoldingHands · 01/02/2007 17:50

Yes v. common. DS2 gave me thrush of the nipples which was delightful!!

princessmel · 01/02/2007 17:51

Sorry to hijack, but I think I've got normal thrush. How would I know for sure? And would dd get it as I'm bf her? Thanks.

ShinyHappyPeopleHoldingHands · 01/02/2007 17:54

Princess, you would have a very itchy fanjo. That's the main sign.

3andnomore · 01/02/2007 17:57

princessmel? I assume you mean Vaginal thrush then. Why would your dd be affected because she is bf?
Often Baby's that bf get thrush because they have been on Ab's, although, I wonder if in my ms case of repeated oral thrush, had something to do with the fact that I had (vaginal)thrush when I gave Birth to him.
Oh, and he always kindly passed it on to my nipples,too...very ouch at the time.

3andnomore · 01/02/2007 17:58

Obviously not just bf Babys get thrush when on ab's, duh...but it does affect the breastfeeding mum differnetly then a Bottlefeeding mum.

princessmel · 01/02/2007 18:00

Yes vaginal. Its not itchy, just sore with extra discharge. Sorry tmi.

I don't know why, I just thought it could pass through to her through the milk. She's had a very sore bum. I don't know anything

princessmel · 01/02/2007 18:01

And she's always on antibiotics so maybe she gave it to me. I def haven't got symptoms for it in the mouth so is it poss thats she's given me the other sort?.

3andnomore · 01/02/2007 18:21

Well, thrush is passed on by contact, so, your daughter may well have thrush, and maybe after changing a nappy you didn't wash your hands thoroughly enough, then went to the loo...that sort of scenario...definately worth going to a doctor to have it checked out and get treated.

princessmel · 01/02/2007 19:21

Ok, another trip to the docs then. We're there so often, we should mive in.

flutterbee · 02/02/2007 07:34

Thank you everyone I had to go before you replied.

The lady at the pharmacy has given me some Thyrozets (I think thats what there called). She said they will help with the thrush and the sore throat (I was unable to speak yesterday) because they are antiseptic and something else.

I will hopefully be able to go out for my birthday meal tonight if I take these all day, along with Nurofen, chesty cough medicine and my vick inhaler
