3 year old with temp how long before Doctor?

How many days would you let a 3 year old with a cold and no obvious infection go before seeing the Doctor?

If he/she seemed okay in themselves (eating, drinking, playing) I wouldn't bother at all. If they seemed to be getting worse rather than better, lethargic etc I'd give the dr a call.

If has temp and no other symptoms then probably is an ear infection - I speak from eons of experience with the poxy things........
