Uterine Polyp Appointment

Posted about this before but cant find it.

So I've got an appointment at the hospital which has taken fucking weeks about a polyp i have. The letter about this appointment is well... Fucking useless doesn't tell me if they plan to remove it or anything, I'm not gonna turn up for them to just whip it out with no pain relief without warning? I've also got a coil so are they gonna remove that too, and not replace it and i'll get pregnant and SUE THEM!! breathe
I'm freaking out a bit. I like to know what to expect, anyone been through this?

Anyone?!

What does the letter say?

If you are going to have it removed then there ought to be a discussion over whether with a GA, local or nothing.

Have you had an initial consultation with the consultant?
There must be a phone number on the letter- ring them up and ask?

I have had 2 removed, both under GA, so maybe this appointment will be to discuss options for removal?

I've had this a few months ago.
They have a look and if it's removable easily they will do it there and then. I didn't need pain relief at all. I also have a coil and no issues there.

They twist off and apply paste (silver nitrate? Don't quote me on that) to stop any bleed and to help prevent infection.

It will only mean more appointments if the stalk of the polyp is into the entrance of cervix.

Don't worry it's not as bad as it sounds! Was very uneventful actually!

Letter doesn't say much, hence my mind going into overdrive. I tried to ring yesterday before i posted but the number was taking me through to the booking system and was super busy. Not impressed.

This is my initial appointment with the consultant.

Funko Thanks for your experience, I just wish they would say this in the letter, least i know now what to probably expect and im fine with that, its the not knowing!

Is it a uterine polyp or a cervical polyp? How was it diagnosed? Have you had a scan? I don't know what Funko had but if it's uterine, they will need to put a small camera in to see what's what, then decide to remove it there and then or maybe with a GA later. It depends what's been diagnosed so far......

I've had a cervical polyp removed at a regular gynae appointment.

I then had to go back to have a few uterine polyps removed via a hysteroscopy procedure. They found a larger one which the gynacologist could'nt remove that way so I have opted to go under a local and have it removed, I am also having thermal ablation for heavy periods.

Have you had the initial gynae consultation and a scan? I had that first and then the appointment for the hysteroscopy which had a covering pamplet explaining the procedure.

Its a uterine polyp, just the one they seem to think.
I've had an ultrasound appointment, they did a belly scan and the dildo cam internal scan and that's how they found it.
Went back to my GP and she referred me to the gyno. So this will be the first time seeing this guy.

The letter doesn't tell me anything so I just wanted to know what to expect.

Thanks for all your replies I feel better having an idea of whats going to happen, if they want to do the hystercopy (or whatever its called) that's fine, i just didn't want to get there and not be expecting it!

Would your GP be able to tell you what to expect- they must refer people all the time and get the results of the appts?

If it's a hysteroscopy, some hospitals never give GAs, others insist on it. I had one (not for a polyp) but it was privately so it was discussed beforehand whether to have GA, local or nothing. (I chose nothing.)

You really need more info because although it can be totally painless, you might have some cramping pains afterwards for a short time and feel unwell to drive etc. Not saying you will, but bear it in mind.

When i went and she referred me she didn't tell me what to expect to be honest. Now I'm a bit annoyed as I feel like I'm going in blind.

So if when i turn up and if they suggest a hysteroscopy there and then which they might I could just refuse on the grounds i wasn't expecting it, it would be like turning up to have a coil fitted and not mentally preparing. I wonder if i can find re this hospitals policy... I can ringing again but its so frustrating i want to speak to the dept, the number goes to the booking referral people!!

My GP is on leave as i rang my surgery yesterday i will try contact her next week as this appointment is 5th September. thanks Polly

I think you could refuse but it would be better if they told you what to expect! A friend of mine has same kind of polyp removed but that was a day case under a GA as it was nr the cervix and required cauterising I think.

Personally, I think you should be treated as an equal partner in your medical care, and allowed to make an informed choice over what you want done, when and how! Not like some anon person who is summoned and doesn't have the information about what may happen! I think you ought to make it clear that this lack of communication is just NOT ON!
