Just caught my 10 mo. old munching on coal!

I just caught my 10 month old munching on coal (the fake kind in my gas fireplace). I have no idea how much he consumed but it couldn't have been a lot. I did find a few granules in his mouth, which I removed. Should I be concerned or just take a few deep breaths and invest in a fireguard?

Oh, BabyDragon did this all the time until we blocked it off. In fact, both DSs had a go at the fake coal too in their time.

I think it's mainly soot they get in their mouths rather than actually eating the coal itself though. A little soot goes a long way

Hmm, I'd go for the second option, unless he's eaten half the fireplace.

My cat used to like licking the fake coals. It lived until a ripe old age of 15 so they can't be too deadly.

Thanks - feel much better. {Hope my ds lives past 15 though!}
