Please help. Sinusitis? Feel so ill

Woke up yesterdaysith headache in left eye and left side of head. Really bad nausea and felt terrible. Paracetamol not helping and I take an antiimflammory for arthritis so can't take ibuprofen. Done the steam thing, helps a small bit. But still have headache, eye ache, nausea, cheek hurts.

I know it's sais that cold compresses help for sinus pain etc and avoid heat but that does nothing for me.
When mine are playing up and I have that awful pain behind cheekbone or eye then one of those wheatpack heated in the microwave foe a couple of mins brings some blessed relief

My sympathies though as it is a miserable making pain

Get some sudafed sinus pressure and pain. Brilliant stuff! That's what the doc will say. You can treat it over the counter - no need for an appointment.hope you feel better.
Get some 4 head too - that'll help as well.

Ah you have my sympathies I suffer with my sinuses. Some things I have found that help:
Co-codamol is the only pain killer that will help.
Steam every few hours and add a drop of tea tree oil.
When all else fails I put vicks vapour rub on my face where my sinuses are (from nose ridge to cheek bone and over eye brows) but i can actually feel my sinuses creaking and popping as they start to loosen. Also makes my eyes water so have sit with eyes closed for a bit.
Sit up don't lie down (extra pillows in bed).
Fresh air, if you can manage it get out for a walk.
Lastly antibiotic however they take days to work so no pain relief however if you can clear your sinuses and then keep them clear for for a few days it will help with the pain.

Doc gave me codeine and a nasal spray, two codeine so later and the pain was worse than ever.
But later this afternoon I asked him to reconsider and give me antibiotics. He said yes so hopefully I'll start getting some relief.

I always suffer & my sinuses always end up infected it's agony, usually anti biotics clear it l, I usually start to feel some relief around two days after starting them, but the nose blowing is a bit grim :-/ I usually take paracetamol & ibuprofen but stagger them otherwise pain relief has no effect

I'm three days in and feeling better but still so ill. Pain is a lot better but I ache and I'm tired and my head/face feels odd.
I don't seem to be blowing much out at all, just a pressure/pain feeling.

I suffer from recurrent sinus induced headaches and I have found that I can more or less control them by taking 10mg of cetirizine ( antihistamine ) every day , since I've been doing this I've only had 1 headache , whereas before I was getting 2 /3 days of headaches per week - I've been on them for about 3 months .

This is going to sound mad, but if you have an electric toothbrush use the back of the head (not the bristles) along the outside of you sinuses - from nose ridge across cheekbones and up and over eyebrows to temples.

The vibration loosens everything up and provides me with relief from the pressure pain when nothing is blowing out.

If you have arthritis it may also have triggered a flare which may explain the additional aches and fatigue - tiredness may also be down to less oxygen/everything being harder work

Hope it clears up soon - only had sinus pain a couple of times and wouldn't wish it on anyone

The Boots sinus pain relief/decongestant is the best I've found.

As the pain is caused by pressure building up, decongestant is the best treatment as it dries things up and "opens the doors" or your sinus tubes so to speak. Painkillers on their own are ineffective with sinus issues.

I've had them for years and really try to avoid getting anti biotics these days.

Combination of the boots stuff, plus using a netti pot works best for me. This has been rubber stamped by the ENT specialists I've seen recently.

Caroline Hirons details a face massage on her blog that mentions some specific sinus pressure points that are good to know. Very useful in draining stuff away and releasing pressure. Pleasurable in the same way poking a bruise is.ie it hurts but also is nice.

This stuff. You need to ask the pharmacist for it. I can't believe how many years I suffered before finding this stuff. Now instead of a low grade pain building into a major infection I take these early on. While they aren't a "cure" in themselves (they treat the symptoms) they allow things to sort themselves out by doing away with the pressure/blockage.

Netti pots are also very easy and effective if you have sinus sensitivities.

Can I ask how long they usually last please? I'm on day 5 of feeling ill (day 4 of antibiotics) and although I've had some better moments during the day, I feel rough again tonight.
