Changing hospital/consultant

Posting on behalf of friend - being a little cagey on details to protect her privacy!

Friend was referred to one hospital by her GP. She really really did not get on with either the consultant or the nurses in th clinic. Subsequently she had an emergency visit to another (less local but still in London) hospital who also deal with her condition, who she thought were brilliant.

How can she arrange to be moved to the other hospital? GP says she can only be referred to the first (more local) hospital? Does she have a choice about where she is treated?

PS it's a chronic condition with specialist nurses so it's a long term relationship with the hospital

My understanding is that you're entitled to a second opinion and to choose where you have treatment within certain parameters (my GP gave me the choice of 8 hospitals).
I don't see how her GP can refuse.

A similar thing happened to me. As P1nk said, you're entitled to a second opinion. I got referred to the second consultant, remained at the second clinic and never looked back. My health improved dramatically for shifting to a hospital a few miles down the road.
