ovarian cancer - experiences?

As I'd posted on my other thread , my mum has been found to be suffering from ovarian cancer. She's due to have the tumour removed next week and hopefully we'll have a better idea what grade it is then. It looks like it'll be a grade 3 at the moment.
I was wondering whether there's anyone here who has experience of this disease? Good or bad? I just can't find much on it really. Just statistics...

First of all I am so sorry to hear about your Mum .
I have been following your other thread and ummed and ahhed about whether I should tell you of my experience with my own dear Mum. But I noticed that you were also asking about timescales so although my story doesn't have a happy ending there was more time than we thought we would have. And the time we did have was for the most good. She got to see her 2nd grandaughter .
My mum was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in 2002 and it was a stage 3d which isn't very good. She had an operation(but there were not able to remove all of the tumour) and chemo and I have to say the chemo did not make her lose loads of weight nor did it make her really sick - they have drugs that help with these sideffects. She had a reasonably good quality of life most of the time and she lived for two years after her diagnosis. I really feel for you and am sending you and your Mum good vibes. I hope she has a good outcome from the surgery.

Hi geekgrrl, i'm so so sorry to hear about your mum. My mum also had ovarian cancer (found when she was 53), but i'm afraid I don't have a very positive story. I will answer any questions if you want me to and can tell you what happened but I don't want to worry you any more as every situation is obviously different.

really sorry geekgrrl . i know someone who worked at our nursery who was diagnosed with ovarian cancer about 9 months ago. she had surgery & chemo (i think), & is now in remission. take care. xx

It just helps to know that there are other people out there whose loved ones have gone through this.

I'm dreading the staging - my poor parents are obviously extremely anxious. I hope they find out quickly after surgery.
My mum has been going through a lot of 'what ifs' these past couple of days, if only she'd noticed something was wrong earlier, if only the GP had noticed it... all I can tell her is that she sounded so cheery and perky when we spoke on Monday - how could she have known beforehand?!
