What could be wrong with my mom?

She has been ill for 2 years. Symptoms as follows:

  • diarrhea
  • nausea
  • no appetite
  • underweight
  • feeling drained & generally not well.

The hospital consultant thinks she "might have colitis". But she still doesn't have a diagnosis. She had a colonoscopy. It hasn't worsened in 2 years, it has stayed the same. Bizarrely she says she always feels better when she has had a few drinks the day before!

Any ideas anyone? Thanks.

Get her to request a test for Coeliac disease.

MissDallas · 26/07/2016 12:52

Can that occur later in life? She has only had it for 2 years.

sounds like chronic pancreatitis

MissDallas · 26/07/2016 13:00

You might be right, dan. She does drink rather a lot, which I have just read is one of the major causes...

You can be diagnosed at anytime with Coeliac disease, my mum was in her fifties not long after my son who was 16 months old!

CMOTDibbler · 26/07/2016 13:50

My SILs mum was diagnosed as coeliac in her 70's

But if OPs mum is drinking a lot, then these symptoms could be down to her alcohol intake - how much do you think she drinks?

MarchelineWhatNot · 26/07/2016 16:32

She drinks a fair bit, but always has.
