you can by cold air humidifiers from a company called "Air Improvement Centre" based in London. www.air-improvement.co.uk or phone 020-7834 2834. They are quite expensive but the US ones do not work on our electrical system and most do not ship. Hope this helps

Hello I am new to mumsnet. I have a 7month old baby boy and he had his first croup attack about a month ago. My husband and I took him to emergency, and he was hospitalized for two days.
It's been a month and he now has a cold again. and is showing syntoms of croup! Is it normal for my baby to have problems breathing almost everytime he gets a cold? I am so worried that he might have asthma. Can anyone give me some advise? Can anyone relate?
Thanks

Steam in his room. (you probably already know that). Some people use essential oils- eucalyptus is good, or a blend or eucalyptus, tea tree and lavender. I put a few drops of each on a muslin and then out them over a radiator- I think in this heat you would need to use a diffuser rather than a radiator though! You can get ones which go over light bulbs. Or if you don't have other children a couple of drops in a cup of hot water.

I have used homeopathy very successfully during a croup attack with ds2. Obviously I wouldn't have hung around if it hadn't iproved though! We found aconite very helpful, but the correct remedy would depend on the symptom picture.

Another long term help could be to see a cranial osteopath. They cleared ds2's chest for him (he coughed up thick gunk for a couple of days after visiting- I didn't even know he had a mucusy chest).

My ds2 had his first croup attack about 1 year old he is now 5 and each time he has a cold he gets croupy,he has only got so bad to need hospitalised once since his first attack,he seems to have stopped reacting to colds like this in the last 6-8 mths.

Thank you so much for your advice. I took him to the doc. and she prescribe antibiotics for and ear infection, poor little one. He has gotten better. I am so glad that I am not the only mommy with a croupy child. I guess I am in this for the long haul. I am not as worried anymore about croup. Thanks again.

Hi new member here. My daughter started with a cough/cold 4 weeks ago now - after 4 visits to the doctor and 1 lot of antibiotics we have discovered it is croup - she is now so bad that for the past 5 nights she has woken up coughing and been sick several times each night. When I was little we used to have a wrights vaporizer that burned oil and was fantastic - I still have the unit, but can't buy the oil anywhere - does anybody know where I can get it from. Please help if you can.

You can't buy these anymore, as they were withdrawed because of the stone. I have a water steam hemidaflier (sp??) which I brought from the chemist, made by Vickes cost me £20. DS is very prone to Croup, he has about 4 bouts a year, and this really helps.
