Recurring thrush ruining sex life

Since I have been with dp I have had many bouts of thrush ( or what I thought was thrush ), creams and oral tablets don't seem to be working, it seems to be worse after sex and often we are unable to have sex. At the moment it is quite bad Sad, it seems to be mainly around my vulva, there are a couple small spots which look like tiny bites. I am wondering if it could be something else. I have no other symptoms other than itching ( no discharge etc.. ).

I am tempted to make a doctors appointment today.

Is he treated when you are ? He could have it and be reinfecting you?

If you book in with the doctors/sexual health clinic they can test for thrush/see it.

Thrush is the bane of my life. Can't have too much sex. Using condoms helps and I can't take any hormonal contraceptives as it just triggers the thrush.

I believe there is also a type of thrush that won't respond to the regular treatments so the sexual health clinic can test for that too

He doesn't show any signs of having it but maybe he should be treated too?
I have made a doctors appointment, couldn't get an appointment with a female doctor but couldn't wait another day as it's driving me nuts.

I have been in the pill for a year now so maybe that's causing it, feels like I am allergic to dp as every time we have sex it flairs up ( then we can't have sex for a few days ), I have never had this problem in the past when with other partners.

He needs to be treated too as men often don't show any symptoms but can be carriers. Also if you cut down on sugar and simple carbs (white bread etc) then that might help.

I rarely eat gluten but I do pig out on sugar from time to time.

What treatment is used for men? Is it just the cream? My dp is registered at a different GP so I won't be able to get treatment for him when I go today.

Have you had a smear test recently? I would recommend making sure you are up to date with your smear tests. (Don't wish to scaremonger but someone in my family had recurring thrush and it turned out to be cervical cancer, so please don't be blase about it if you haven't had one within the recommended timescale. It's unlikely to be this so really am not trying to scaremonger, I just think it's worth ruling out any possibility).

When I was younger I had recurring thrush all the time. I found washing my vagina with just water (no soap in that area) stopped the problem. I haven't wash down below with soap in years and as a result haven't had thrush in years either.

If he isn't treated he could really be reinfecting you after your treatment.

He needs to make an appointment or perhaps you can speak discretely to a pharmacist?

GP has given me 4 weeks of tablets ( anti fungal ), he forgot to tell me that's I could not take them with the other med's I am on Sad.

I had a smear a few months ago and all came back clear.

Did the GP examine you and take swabs? Hope so, it'd be pretty negligent not to if you're also describing sore spots on the vulva.

Previous posters are right, DP need treating too either with cream or oral treatment and you shouldn't have sex until it's cleared or he's completed a course of treatment otherwise there's no point treating you.

Men just take the same tablet as women do, with use of the cream to alleviate symptoms in the meantime. You can get your DP this tablet from any pharmacy or even the supermarket. Why not both take the standard tablet, wait 3 or 4 days and then see if it happens again? I bet it's just because he is carrying it and hopefully that would sort you without 4 weeks of tablets!

Get one of the "one off" tablets for him when you are treated.

He's almost certainly reinfecting you.

Are you sure it's thrush? I was mis-diagnosed for years. Every time a doc takes a swab they will find thrush because it's always there as far as I can see. Would there ever be a vaginal swab where no thrush is found?

Mine turned out to be a kind of eczema around that area. One doc gave me Betnovate ointment (a steroid) which I use sparingly. You can only use it on the outer parts but it stops that incredible itch straightaway.
I used to have to get up at night and sluice warm water on myself and take painkillers it was so bad.
Anyway just an idea.

I am exactly the same.

I get it 8 out of 10 times I have sex. Also once just before my period.

I have it right now actually. It's definitely thrush and dh isn't passing it onto me. I was tested for diabetes and even HIV but after all these years (18) I just have to accept it will be a constant part of my life.

I have this too. I find having a shower after sex and going to loo cuts back on my symptoms considerably. Also I have cut right down on sugar and yeast as I notice it gets worse if I have been eating a lot of both. I self treat with oral tablet for about 5 weeks in a row just to get it to settle.
