found a lump

Last night whilst having a panic attack I discovered a lump in my right breast , the lump is 2cm in length and isn't round or painful. I'm able to grasp it with my fingers . I managed to get a emergency appointment with my doctor today who has now referred my to a breast clinic. I'm 35 years young with children the only person ive told is my ex partner . What happens now I'm so emotional as suffer with anxiety

I can't offer you advice but I can sympathies as I found a lump the last week and have been referred too. I'm 32.

Well done for getting the referral. It's scary as hell but you've acted quickly and it will most likely be fine. I found a lump 2 yrs ago. Shit myself for a week waiting for the appointment. Turned out to be a benign cyst, sorted out there and then at the breast clinic.

I won't tell you not to worry, but just try to keep busy while you wait, and maybe have someone come to the clinic to hold your hand.

I know how you feel. Only DH knows. I agree that keeping busy helps. I've only just gone back to work after maternity leave so am constantly distracted, thankfully. My referral came today. I keep telling myself statistics are on my side.

Hopefully we'll both be ok !! When is your referral for ? I'm dreading the letter arriving as makes things a little more really. I usually have wine on a Friday but have decided to cut it out for now

Just for record, 9 out of 10 breast lumps seen at breast clinics turn out to be benign, so the odds are very much in your favour

Again, I'm trying to be positive and keep busy. I think waiting for the results will be worse. I have no idea how long that will take. My GP has been lovely. It's just the no knowing. Fingers crossed for both of us. Hope you hear soon.

If it helps at all, I have recently been through this and it turned out to be a cyst which was drained on the day. As I'm sure you know you will be seen at the breast clinic within two weeks. The waiting is the killer! I imagined all sorts of things but try and keep busy. Oh and keep off google lol.

Received my referral , 7th July which is a week since seeing my doctor

All breast clinic referrals are made through the two week pathway, so a week is normal.

I didn't know about the 2 week time scale . How long do results take once been seen ? Advice been given about keeping busy has helped lots

It depends on what tests you have really.

If it is a cyst then probably will be aspirated and then nothing more will be done.

Any other type of lump (even those which are seen as benign on mammogram and ultrasound) will likely need a biopsy and the results take about a week.

If you are feeling anxious you can always call the breast care nurse and have a chat with them. They are a fantastic help to women.

On the day you will see a breast consultant, have a mammogram and an ultrasound. Depending on what they find you will be come away with some information on what they have found, even if a biopsy is also required.

Good that you have your appointment next week, that's really fast and at least you don't have to go through two weekends of waiting.

Usually we wouldn't mammogram women under 40 so you may not have one, unless the surgeon who examined you first feels that the lump is suspicious.

The radiologist (who will do your ultrasound for you and biopsy if required) should give you an idea on the day if they think there is anything to worry about or not. They are very open and honest so please do ask them questions.
