Different speech and unsteadiness

My mum is 83 and she has existing health problems inc copd, heart attack years ago and kidney disease recently say last 3 weeks her speech has been funny and she is so wobbly on her legs that she now needs a stick. Went to stroke unit today but they don't think stroke what else could it be dr said gp will need to investigate more
