splinter - help

Yes I'm really asking about a splinter...
Yesterday I got a splinter about 5mm very deep in my finger. I tried to take it out myself last night (needle boiled in water) & now I believe it's infected & the splinter is still in there. Finger is v sore puffy and a bit red & hot. Finger has swollen over cut I made so there's no way I can get it out.

I need to see someone don't I? Or will it work its way out by itself?

Curve ball - I'm on holiday overseas. Will head to tourist info tomorrow to ask where I can go see someone if necessary.

It's agony & making me a bit miserable FFS had to happen on holiday argggh.

Thanks for any advice!

I'd get a bowl and pour 2 pints of boiling water into it. Stir two teaspoons of salt into it. This will make a solution of normal saline 0.9% and should be clean. Let it cool until you can submerge your hand in it, then soak the affected hand in the solution for as long as you have patience for, to soften the skin. Hopefully, this will both soften the skin and encourage the splinter to the surface.

Thanks lougle I'll try that.

I'm blaming DH for cheering me on with a needle last night...

To be fair, I'm the first to grab my 'friendly needle' if someone tells me they have a splinter, so I wouldn't dare speak ill of your DH Wink.

Well I had to go to a&e and have it removed. It was very deep apparently. All courtesy of my European health card Grin
