My DS has very runny stools, at least once a day but today it was three times. It started when he was aroudn a year although always had quite loose stools. I have taken him to the docs and awaiting results on stool test, but doc also mentioned possibility of coeliac disease. Does anyone have any experience of runny stools in nappies and / or coeliac disease? He is fine in himself but it is starting to worry me, thanks

There is something called 'toddler diarrhoea' which all of my children have had - basically explosive nappies, children fine in themselves, but terrible nappies! Sometimes cutting down apple juice can help, but with mine they grew out of it at around 3 - could be this!

I have coeliac disease and in my experience a runny nappy is not an indication of coeliac disease....bowel movements of a coeliac baby are puffy, airey, bulky and very pale almost creamy yellow colour. My sisters baby is about the same age and because of the family history she had a test cos of continual runny nappies...turns out after all came back clear that it was the step up milk causing it...as soon as she took her off it she was fine..hth

I think my DS (23m) has toddler diarrhoea, he's never done a solid poo in his life. I had thought it would get better when he came off formula but there was no change. He had mild reflux from 0-6m but otherwise eats like a horse and is as strong and healthy as one.
I make an effort to avoid artifical sweeteners (eg Hijuice squash only but still check the label) and wholewheat cereals (I'm sure you've already learned to avoid Shreddies and Weetabix as this is recommended for toddler diarrhoea. So more sugar and white bread!

yes i took him of wholemeal stuff a while aqo, although it doesn't seem to have changed anything. My son also eats loads and is very active and happy, but i wonder if he eats so much because it's going through him so fast, and is he getting enough nutrients? thanks for all your comments on this

hi, I have found out my toddler doesn't have coeliac, and tests on his stools came back OK. He still has very volumious and runny poos, could it be an allergy to dairy? He had mucus in his poo today, but he has had a cold... Does anyone else have any other experience of this?
Thank you
