Citalopram and occasional sickness. Is it connected?

I've been taking it for over 8 weeks now. I've occasionaly had bouts of feeling really sick. It can last up to a couple of hours and it comes and goes in waves.
I was fine all day yesterday and then when I went to bed I got this overwhelming feeling of sickness. I sat outside for nearly an hour and then ended up vomiting.
Could this be the Citalopram causing it? I dont get it everyday, in fact I've had it exactly 5 times including last night.
Has anyone else experienced this?

I felt nauseaous and sick when I first started taking Citalopram, but it was only for the first couple of weeks then it settled down.

It might be the tablets, I found some of the side-effects lasted for the entire time I was taking the Citalopram, but as far as I know nausea and vomiting is usually only a short term thing. Maybe you should see the GP and get it checked out in case it's something else.

I know sickness can be a side effect but I just presumed that if it was, you'd have it all the time.
I'll go and see the Dr and see what he says. I'm just worried that he takes me off it and I end up going downhill again

I experienced nausea when I first started taking Citalopram, but it didn't last long.

He probably won't take you off it, NBG - he's more likely to ask you to keep trying for another few weeks and see if the sickness subsides.

Don't worry about being taken off it; if he does take you off it he'll prescribe something else for you in the hope that it won't have the same side-effects.

Has the sickness been going on ever since you started the tablets, or is it more recent?

NbgsYellowFeathers · 21/01/2007 11:51

Its been since I've had them.
Just trying to work it out. I've been on them 8 weeks and the first time I had a bout of the sickness was the 21st Dec lol.
Like I said, it lasts about an hour or so and then nothing.

I would have thought if it was a side-effect of the tablets you would have had it from the start.

No chance you could be pregnant, is there? Or reacting to something you're eating?

Certainly not pregnant (have AF atm). I did wonder about food but where do you start to identify what it is?!
The only thing I could come up with, is that the last 2 times it has happened, I have drunk a cup of tea just before bed but I have done that god knows how many times in my life!
