Extremely thin teenager? Any help/advice??

DD (12) is very thin. She eats loads and she's not that active, but its quite worrying. You can see her collar bones, hips, ribs, sternum and her leg bones stick out. She has huge thigh gap and VERY little muscle tone. She can barely do a press up. Today she's eaten:

  • Huge bowl of bran flakes, full fat milk
  • Banana, strawberries, apple
  • 2 egg mayo sandwiches
  • Beef burger on roll, corn on cob
  • 3 adult size plates of pasta
  • Big bowl strawberries and cream
  • Bowl of shreddies, some chicken chunks
And she's still hungry. Shes always been slim, but not this excessively. She weighs about 7.7 stone and is 5 foot 3. Any ideas? What do your skinny pre/teens eat in a day? Is it similar to dds??

I was a skinny teen (didn't top 8st till I was 18, and I'm 5'8"). She certainly seems to be eating plenty, but I'd worry about the muscle tone and constant hunger. Could be she's having a growth spurt, but I'd probably talk to the GP about it.

Take her to the GP. If she's eating that amount and losing weight then there may be an issue - there may not be an issue of course, but do get it checked out.
Are you actually seeing her eat that amount?

Footle · 23/06/2016 19:28

Are you quite sure she's keeping it down ?

Teabag2 · 23/06/2016 19:34

That is a lot for a 12 year old girl, I agree with Footle are you sure she is keeping it down?

JennyOnAPlate · 23/06/2016 21:32

I think you need to take her to the GP op.

Noitsnotteatimeyet · 23/06/2016 23:06

Are you sure about her weight op? As that weight and height would make her bmi bang in the middle of the scale ... My dd is 13 and weighs just over 7 stone but is 5'7" tall - she's very slim but definitely not skinny and looks healthy and strong - she has a healthy appetite but doesn't eat anything like as much as your dd appears to

I'd definitely be taking her to the GP to get her checked

happylittlefish · 26/06/2016 14:27

I'm sure she is keeping it down. She's always eaten quite a bit tbh.
I'm also sure that her weight I correct, and she is very skinny. Just because her weight is in a specific place, doesn't mean she has to look that weight. My guess is she's going through a growth spurt, not sure though. Will take to gp soon
