Ultrasound on Lipoma 'not as expected'

I've just had an ultrasound on a suspected lipoma that has been on my back for about 8 years and has grown to around 3 x 3 inches and is about 2 inches sticking out from my back. It is painless.
The radiologist said it looks like a fatty mass ie Lipoma but parts of it were 'not as expected' and my Dr would probably refer me to a specialist.
Now I'm a bit worried :(
What kind of specialist would he be referring to?
I know my Dr wanted it out anyway as it's quite big and he said it would just keep growing but I would i have needed to see a specialist before it's removal?

Just going through this. So it was a referral to surgery/fast track to surgery operation within 2 weeks. A long cut to remove the lump - more than double the length of the bump at its widest point - but a very neat scar a bit like a c section type scar to look at. Then a long wait for biopsy results which is the stage we are at. This was also for a lump on the back.

Thanks Bomb, are you still waiting for results? Did you have Local or general? Thanks for answering. I'm nervous! I hope you are ok, probably feeling the same?

Yeah still waiting!! It was a very light anaesthetic but a general. Out the same day. It hurt more than expected but gp says the cut probably went deep as well so through muscle which makes it hurt a bit during recovery

Please make sure they know what it is before they try and remove it. I was diagnosed with a sarcoma in my thigh last year, and one of the main predictors of success is that every scrap is removed. Hopefully everything will be ok, fingers crossed for you.

Thank you penny. I hope you are recovering.Flowers I will try to make sure of this. No news yet. x
