Mole referral appointment tomorrow

Hi, I've had a mole on my neck which appears to have changed shape and size, I went to the doctors and she referred me under the 2 week appointment referral system. My appointment is tomorrow and I'm starting to CRAP myself, I have a few questions if anyone's had this done...

Do they remove the mole at the first appointment or will I have to go back to have it removed?

Do they tell you there and then if they think it's a normal mole?

After the mole is removed how long does it take to get results back?

I'm 22 weeks pregnant can they remove it even though I'm
Pregnant?

Hope someone can help me, thank you Flowers

At your appointment, if they think it looks suspicious they will likely either remove the mole under local anaesthetic or take a scraping from it. The tissue will be sent for biopsy.

If it comes back as melanoma, you will have further tissue removed with a wider margin (a wide local excision). The extent of the margin will depend on the depth of the mole. The extra tissue will also be sent for biopsy to ensure all the cells have been removed.

Results usually take about 2 weeks but can be longer during busy times. I would imagine they would do it even if you were pregnant - there's no need for a general anaesthetic.

It's scary but remember that most moles aren't cancer, most skin cancer isn't melanoma, and most melanoma is caught at an early stage where removal is the only treatment required. Flowers

Thank you so much for your reply. You're so right & I keep saying to myself at least I'm having it seen and there's no point even thinking about it but I just can't help it (I'm a natural worrier) thanks again, I hope they remove it tomorrow I'm driving myself nuts looking at it constantly in a mirror and prodding it ConfusedGrin

May I join this thread? I'm in a very similar position - pregnant and have a skin lesion which hasn't healed for almost two months. This evening, I got a referral from obstetrician to a dermatologist and I need to ring tomorrow for hopefully a soon appointment. I've had birthmarks surgically removed before mostly for cosmetic reasons and as a precaution but this small lesion is worrying me.

I'd also be keen to know the impact of any of pregnancy on the treatments anyone has received. Thanks
