Ingrown toenail ouch

Saw a podiatrist today as thought I had an ingrown toenail starting; had been bit sore for a few days. Now regretting it! She was very good and thorough, but has cut nails really short, and cut quite a way down the side of the dodgy one. God it's sore tonight! 'Bit red, don't think infected but clearly protesting at the harsh cutting. Anyone got any tips/had similar? Wonder if I should be putting something on to stop infection getting in?

I had the same three weeks ago mine was infected but once it was cut out the pain was so much better but still slightly sore. I was told to soak it in Epsom salts and warm water and it's fine now.

You will know if it becomes infected as it will leak pus.

Thanks for that, I'll soak it in Epsom salts .
