Gynae issues. Endometritis, a cyst, something else??

Started having severe lower abdominal pain a week ago - constant intense burning pain that paracetamol wasn't touching. A few days later out of hours referred me to A&E as urine sample clear and pain worsening.

After bloods and more urine testing, A&E concludes it's most likely a gynae issue and refers me for gynae appointment and gives me strong anti inflammatories. This was all around the time my period was due.

I always had painful periods as a teenager and was on the pill for years to help. Had unexplained infertility for years after coming off the pill and eventually conceived via IVF. Since having my little boy 3 years ago my periods have been lighter and less painful, but I do get severe ovulation pains each month - something my GP has said is likely caused by Caesarean section adhesions.

Pending another GP appointment, and the gynae appointment, I'm wondering does this sound like possible endometritis? I had several ultrasound scans before and during IVF but I understand these wouldn't show endometritis.

I just want to be ready to fight for further investigations if necessary!!

Could well be endometriosis and you are right in thinking that it is not picked up on ultrasound scans. Any symptom that is cyclical in nature and gets worse up to and including menses should be checked out to see if endometriosis is the cause. You've always had painful periods and mid cycle pain, both are symptoms as well.

In the meantime I would keep a daily pain and symptom diary as this could also give the gynae clues.

I would agree it sounds like endometriosis. It's incredibly common: 1 in 10 women have it. You'd need a diagnostic lap (+/- treatment) to know for sure.

The GP won't really be much use now, spend your energy chasing up the gyne appointment instead.

Completely agree with above but also you might want to start from the beginning.

When I saw gynae he asked for a full history, when I started my periods, when did I start having issues, what was prescribed for those issues. Also I could see a pattern of when my pain coincided with different hormone spikes throughout my cycle which helped them narrow it down to endo.
