Sore nose - what to do?

My 4yo ds has had a nose running like a tap for the last week. The skin at the skin at the base of his nostrils is becoming very sore. Any suggestions?
I am giving him a decongestant (Sudafed) to reduce the flow level, using a medicated microcrystalline wax to coat the area as often as he will let me (it stays put better than vaseline)and using a damp cloth to gently soak of any encrustations that build up whilst he is asleep.
He is also on antibiotics for a secondary ear infection... so is on regular paracetomol
HELP He is so miserable with the discomfort.

Hello Donk. Sorry to hear about your DS. What about trying sudocreme? That can be quite soothing for sores. Hope he gets better soon.

Sudocreme really stings! (tried it on myself first........)
He's a bit brighter today apart from the nose - have got a Manuka Honey based cream to try (!) - but he just wipes everything off and complains bitterley that his nose 'smells' if the substance is not completely odourless....even vaseline

Dont't know about smell however for dry skin i use a smidge of grapeseed/olive oil (learned from my baby massage class!!) - it does get absorbed quicker than vaseline. I also use Medised which is paracetamol with antihistamine to stop nose running and i find it works great -mind you that could be cos it makes my 8mo sleepy!!

I'll try the olive oil - thanks essanel
