i dont know if this will help but i always found hot drinks quite soothing when i had sore throats. much better than cold ones

Viral tonsilitis must be doing the rounds in Yorkshire. Just had it myself. Was told to take paracetamol every 4 hours and ibuprofen three times in every 24 hours.

Gargling with warm salt water helps too.
