Ds prescribed amoxicillin 250mg per 5ml one spponfull 3 times a day and the pink steriods for three days. This was monday morning but he still seems to be having a hard time catching his breath and is having several episodes of grunty breathing a day. Any advice would be greatly appeciated.
TIA

He should be showing an improvement by now. How old is he?

geekgrrl · 17/01/2007 09:25

agree with belgo (I'm a chest infection veteran) - you really should see a difference now. How old is ds? I think you should take him back to the GP todayand get a different antibiotic.

My dd was diagnosed with a chest infection pre-xmas and didn't respond to the anti-biotics.
In the end she ended up in A&E,diagnosed with Bronchiolitis-which actually cleared itself up eventually. It peaked at about 4 days or so.
Good luck-hope he improves soon.

He was 2 on 28th december he has always suffered with his chest this just seems a bit nasty, he's not getting a temperature any more but just doesn't seem to be responding very well.

Take him back to the doctors. It's good that he no longer has a temperature, but a doctor should listen to his chest.

seen gp he wasn't happy that he's not getting better and has told us to give him four hourly nebulisers and if no improvement after 24 hours he will have to be admitted to hospital
