Head Lice...annoying little bug gers!

DS has been back at nursery for 2 days. Quick check before bed an d the poor lad is crawling with them. I only checked on Sunday and he was clear.

Bloody hell, I know head lice are an occupational hazard of young kids but this is the second time in 1/2 a term.

Please can anyone explain why kids are no longer checked and why schools cannot let a parent know their kid has nits? There must be some poor kid who is utterly livid with them and the teachers must know who.

So it looks like it's me at the chemist tomorrow am and bless DS, he's been kind enough to share his new pets with me.

only thing you can do is wash hair in tea tree shampoo and conditioner, spray every day with some tea tree oil drops in water. the theory being that lice don't like the smell of it, and tea tree weakens the glue they use to stick the eggs to the hair shaft. at least then, if one does crawl into their hair, it'll not like it, and hopefully not stay

Recently had my first experience with this too - DS2 was crawling, lots of live lice and I was astonished that I had not noticed until the nursery told me, poor lad. Anyway, now I know what to look for! Best thing I did was get the nitty gritty comb, it got so much out of the hair. Few weeks later I spotted eggs, combed them out right away. Ooh just thinking about it again makes my head itch!

The truly horrifying bit was the size of the blighters. I'd checked him before he returned on Monday and he was clear. The ones I found were HUGE, you could see everything with the naked eye. Some poor kid is crawling with them.

Good thing is we caught it early and there hasn't been time for the egg stage.

But poor DS and his Scooby Doo hair. He'll scream the place down again when I put the lotion on
