Shoulder surgery question.

I am currently waiting for an MUA, capsular release and subacromial decompression on my shoulder.
Wondered if anyone had had this and how long did it take you to get back to normal etc?

Anyone?

I haven't had it but have had 2 frozen shoulders operated on - at different times.

My shoulders improved rapidly & I was told by the physio it was because I did do the exercises three times a day, as told to. She said that people always say they do but many don't & she could easily tell who did do the exercises & that it really makes a difference. I was swimming front crawl again, about 3/4 weeks post surgery.

I don't know if you are in a lot of pain with your problems. If you are you have my sympathy - it's so bloody tiring.

Hope someone else comes along who can offer more help than me.

Crikey I can't even imagine being able to swim again.
I can't even wash my hair properly and haven't been able to drive for a year.
Can I ask what the op was for your frozen shoulder?

It was keyhole arthroscopic release. Was in overnight. It was some 15 years ago so I don't remember all the details! I couldn't do my bra up, struggled to wash hair & had to train myself to use my left arm to wipe my bum!! (Sorry if TMI). Also could not drive.

Honestly the improvement was amazing & very quick. Anaesthetic (sp?) left me feeling a bit knocked for a couple of days but I was driving within a week & able to wash hair. Doing up bra behind back took longer & some things took even longer. Think it was about 6 months before I could throw stones, whilst on the beach.

About the only thing I can't do now is paint (DIY stuff) for any length of time as the repetitive movement does hurt. But that really does not bother me at all as DH is OK at it!

I was back to work after two weeks. I was worried the op hadn't worked for a while as I was doing the exercises but didn't have full mobility but it all came good in the end. Four months tops and I was back to normal, no more trex arm

It's been so bloody painful. Strangley excited about it, I just hope I'm not waiting too long.

Sorry to be nosy, but what condition were you diagnosed with? How did you go about getting referred for surgery? What were your symptoms? What other treatments did you have to try first?

I am suffereing from severe neck and shoulder pain for about 2 years now. Keep getting fobbed off with stress / tense muscles. In sheer agony all the time and it leaves me exhausted. Desparately seeking help.

I was off work for nearly 6 months after my op for a rotator cuff injury. Loads of physio and trying to exercise it, 4 steroid injections as well but been told I'm "just the unlucky one" as I still have chronic pain although some days worse than others.

ShyGirlie I have calcific tendonitis, frozen shoulder and some swelling of the supraspinitus muscle.
Woke up one morning unable to move my right arm and was in absolute agony. GP sent me for an x-ray, had first steroid injection 10 days later and have had two more over the last 12 months.
Also had physio and in january I had ultrasound guided barbotage.
The radiologist said I needed a surgical referral after more calcium was spotted on the ultrasound.
It's been a nightmare. Can you see a different doctor?

Behooven I'm sorry to hear that, I've been on one website but can't for the life of me remember which that advocates massage for shoulder injuries. Have you had anything like that?
I think once I've had my op I'm going to combine the physio with some sports massage privately, so I can tackle it from every angle.

That's a good idea Icould - I don't know why massage didn't occur to me.
I have large deposits of calcium as well, the op I had removed some of it but subsequent scans etc show more. I could have another operation but there's no guarantee at all it would work.

I hadn't even heard of calcium deposits in this context before all this happened.

I had a rotator cuff repair due to continual dislocation.

The first week was quite difficult, but physio got underway and things improved rapidly, I did the exercises religiously, and was back to normal after about 12 weeks.

All the very best, it's a truely miserable condition.

Just had a phone call from the hospital, they have a cancellation for June 7th.
