I think so. I think there is an organisation called The Liver Trust, Or you can try googling Obstetric Cholestasis. Sorry to be so brief, must go.

It's possibly Obstetric Cholestasis. I had this with all my pregnancies. The liver should be fine after her delivery.

thankyou ,i will pass on to my friend, she was told about now but not after babys born.

sounds like Obsteric Cholestasis

fine after baby is born, but might need to be induced two wks before edd as it can harm the baby.

If it is OC then she should be fine after birth - they will give her LFT's a few days afterwards to check. Most women return completely to normal, though do have a high chance of having OC again in subseuent pregnancies. A very few women (myself and GeorginaA are two) go on to have symptoms (usually just itching) on a monthly basis after pregnancy, as their liver continues to be sensitive to monthly hormonal cycles. But no treatment is given as it is not considered dangerous (just bloody irritating to itch until you bleed for 3 days a month)

Piffle · 16/01/2007 16:23

I only know about OC from the point of view that they tried to tell me I had it and I didn't
Thankfully

thankyou, very helpful.again i will pass on to her.shes booked in for csection at 38 weeks anyway but they are talking about inducing her sooner as her levels are so high.hope not!thanks again.

Have they got her on Ursodeoxycholic acid? Can have dramatic effect on bringing down bile acids, enabling her to carry for longer

I had OC with my pregnancy and had to be induced at 36 weeks. They gave me urso, which really helped with the itching. Once baby was born, the symptoms went away. No ongoing problems that I am aware of. Hope all goes well.

I had Accute Fatty liver of pregnancy.

Very rare and very dangerous, a normal liver function test has a result of 30, mine was over 900!
Was induced and all was back to normal after a few weeks.

Can honestley say i have never felt so ill in my life! Was then advised not to have any more children.

Hi All,

Any updates on this post? Did things work out? Currently 28 weeks pregnant and experiencing pain where my liver is. Not sure what it could be...
