My BIL is in hospital with this. Has anyone had this illness? If so how serious is it and what is the treatment etc.

Hi,
Though I am not expert on on this I saw you had no answers. The man who put plaster casts on my son every week in his early days of club foot went ill with Pericarditis, which I presume is the same. I think it is usually treated with antibiotics, and if it has been spotted he should be fine.

Hope all is OK

Thank you for the bump

Yes its Pericarditis, came on really suddenly - the doctor treating him has said it sometimes happens after a cold or flu.

Waiting to hear from my sister about how he is today, poor thing she is dealing with this and two small children. Her DH has also been of sick with depression for two weeks so not the best start to the year for her.
