advice needed re: mmr / single vaccine

not sure if this is too much a controvesal topic but i am a mother of a 12 month year old boy, i am really torn whether to go ahead with MMR or opt for £500 single vaccine.

Does anyone have any advice or helpful information, is difficult i know as i understand at the end of the day it is a personal choice.

I understand there to be no medical risks associated with the MMR (likn to autism) but i have heard several 'emotional' arguements of parents who are concnerned that following MMR there may be a link.

a very contentious topic on MN! Lots on archives. Generally MMR considered to be safe except for a very small percentage of children with pre-existing gut problems - the problem is identifying those children. The cochrane report, the govt's enquiry, which the press jumped on a conclusive proof that MMR was safe, actually concluded that there is 'woefully inadequate research' to prove either that MMR is safe or unsafe.

www.jabs.org.uk have a list of single clinics if you choose to go down that route. Many thousands of children have MMR and are fine, and then there are a very few whose parents have seen a marked change after the jab, so you really have to go with your gut.

All the research I've seen shows no link between MMR and autism. Therefore, I'd rather give it in one jab as you spare the child a series of injections which lets face it, isn't the most pleasant ordeal to go through.

The choice is of course entirely yours, and I am no expert. But, I think not only is MMR safe (as safe as these things can be), but I have recently read that in fact, in theory, a person could have thousands of vaccines on the same day and have no adverse effect! So, three at once should really be no problem. Apparently this is because we actually are faced with thousands of viruses daily which we fight off without even knowing it. So, add a few more (and the viruses contained in vaccines are incredibly weak versions of the real thing) and it shouldn't pose a problem. Havign said that, perhaps the risks come from other ingredients inside vaccine mixtures, ingredients that some people may be allergic to or otherwise react to badly. So, I wouldn't dare advise anything. Just trasmitting some information you might find useful.

it always surprises me when doctors come out with theory isa, that one could have thousands of vaccines in one day with no adverse effect. AS they rightly scorn anything that is not scientifically tested and proven, how on earth can they claim that to be true? No baby is going to be the guinea pig for that particular hypothesis. I am not anti-vaccine but wary of the misinformation on both sides of the debate.

and of course the countless viruses we are bombarded with daily have to contend with our whole immune system - skin, nose, throat, stomach, etc. They don't just get injected straight into our blood stream.
