I would definitely see the gp. Acne is unpleasant and can be painful.

Does he have any signs of pubertal development?

Marina · 12/01/2007 12:26

Yes, if it really is acne you are talking about (as opposed to just a few small spots, you will know ), then this is a specific condition that should be assessed and treated by a dermatologist. A friend's ds had this, quite badly in terms of disfigurement, but he is now fine and back to his gorgeous self.
Visit the GP but you might have to make a fuss to get him referred. She had to go private in the end but as soon as the specialist saw them both he fast-tracked her into his children's NHS clinic. Hope your GP is more helpful.

I would go and see the GP about it. 5 sounds very young for this too.

pubertal development had crossed my mind, though no other symptoms that I know of, well not the obvious one anyway

It does'nt seem to bother him, but it is definately acne.

Yes definately go to the doctors. If it is acne then there is lots that they can give you for him. If it's not acne you need to know what it is. Good luck!!

You will not be wasting the GP's time.

Some links here
Infantile Acne

and scroll down to the bit "Must-Treat Acne" Here
It sounds a bit scary but there was absolutely nothing wrong with my friend's ds and I am sure the same will apply to yours too

I have posted previously about what I thought was eczema on dd's face. After seeing the dermotologist he prescribed an 8 week low dose course of antibiotics, as he thought it was infantile acne. Two weeks into the abs and the spots had completely gone. She has finished the course now and her face is still completely clear. It is worth going to the GP but demand a referral to the hospital.
