Mooncup anxiety

So, just inserted my new Mooncup. Took a couple of goes, but safely in. I haven't trimmed the stem, but can no longer feel it.

Am now paranoid that, because I haven't needed to trim the stem, it is too far up. Dithering about whether I should try and get it out now, just to check that I can, or stop fretting, go to sleep and leave it to do its job overnight. I know it can't actually get lost, but I am a bit concerned that it may be tricky to remove.

What will happen if it gets full? Do I just leak? ( I have a night time pad on as well, I have v heavy flow). What's the best way to remove a full Mooncup for the first time ( most probably under the interested gaze of a nosy 5 year old ).

Mooncup users, can you reassure me that it will all be fine?

It will be totally fine. Why not have a go at removing and reinserting now just so you can see you can? I think the best way is to sort of get your fingers (or one finger anyway) up the side, to break the seal if you see what I mean, and then slip it out keeping it upright.

If it's comfortable, it should be in properly. I would just go to bed. If it gets too full, it will probably leak a bit (I have the same problem with v heavy flow early on). To remove it, try and relax your muscles (a squatting position may help the first time), then break the seal (pinch it or slide a finger up) and ease it out. It can be a little messy when you're getting used to it, but it's so much less faff once you are!

And yy to the practising if that will make you feel more confident - in this respect a moon cup is vastly superior to tampons - you can remove it straight away after insertion if you need to.

YY to practice makes perfect. Go to bed. Allow time in the morning to fiddle around and make a mess. To remove, bear down hard and you'll feel it more easily. You will find the way that works for you.

Key info: it will come out. It might be messy while you master it. It is not stuck.

Thank you. I did take it out again immediately after I first inserted it, as I got a bit spooked by how it disappeared with no external means of extraction. So I will leave well alone and just go to sleep, safe in the knowledge that I won't have to get up and change every couple of hours, which is what I have to do with tampons at this stage in my period.

I know I am worrying needlessly. I just needed some wise mumsnetters to put my mind at rest.

Squat and bear down, like trying to squeeze wee out. Reach up with finger and thumb and grab the ribbed part. Squeeze and twist to beak the seal. It will come out! Mine sits up much higher than the diagrams suggest and can be hard to reach. I also cut the whole stem

It takes a bit of practice - I had a panic the first time I tried it because I didn't think I'd be able to get it out again! It took a couple of attempts but it was fine.
It took me about 3 months to get completely comfortable using it but I knew within a few days that I would never look back.

But I took it out so quickly the first time, that I never had time to check if it was positioned correctly. It just went in with a bit of a pop and I freaked out and pulled it back out again. But it will all be ok, I will be able to find it and it will come out.

Right, I am really going to stop thinking about this now and just go to sleep. I am thinking maybe make my morning removal attempt in the shower? That could minimise the mess maybe?

Good idea. Just be aware that wet fingers on a mooncup may be slidey and you might have a massive panic and think it's stuck need to persevere!

Taking out and popping back.in whilst in the shower is perfect. Especially when practicing. I can get away with just changing in the shower after the first day of my period (obviously at least twice a day) it's like I'm not even on my period, it's great!
