Hi, my son has been diagnosed with this after 2 hospital admissions. He has had tummy pain since last Wednesday which came on very suddenly. He has been off school since. Has anyone else experience this? I'm looking for other solutions to giving paracetamol and ibuprofen as they do not take the pain away and I have read this can last for weeks. My concern is he's 11 and already missed a week of school. Any advice please? Should I take him back to the gp?

Been back today. Not much he could do other than readmit us to hospital. Said there's no point as they're doing nothing more than what I'm doing at home :(

i'd take the hospital readmission -they are the experts in nursing and you can visit and not be so stressed out.

My daughter got this after having glandular fever. she had just turned 14. She is now 15 and a half and still has the stomach pain. Its always there, some days worse then others. Theres nothing the doctors can do about it and the pediatrician said she would grow out of it. How many years is that going to take. last year she only spent half the week at school on a good week. This year she is doing it hard by going to school even when in pain. Its very hard on her. No end in sight.

My daughter suffers from this too, though fortunately it doesn't come on very much. I've had some success with aloe vera juice, which tastes utterly disgusting to me, but dd doesn't seem to mind?! She doesn't like the flavoured stuff which is supposed to be more palatable (equally vile, to my palate) but the pure stuff seemed to work better. Maybe just a coincidence but it's ended a bout within a day 3 times out of 3 when normally it lasts around a week and sometimes two
