Reaction to MMR on the same day as the shot

My DS 16mo had the MMR at 11:30am this morning and when I put him to bed at 7pm I noticed he had a rash over his torso and neck and particularly under his arms. I was told to expect a reaction after 7 to 10 days so I am a bit surprised. I spoke with the someone at the hospital and they told me not to worry unless he gets more serious symptoms, but after putting off the MMR for so long and then deciding to have it mostly becuase there is no alternative here in Germany or in Australia, I am a bit worried.

Has anyone had a similar experience? Do you think it is related to him having sensitive skin and eczema (although none apparent at the moment)? Any reassurances/information gratefully received.

dd broke out within 24 hours and was quite unwell for about a week. Our then Swiss paediatrician was quite open about accepting the vaccine was responsible and said she just had a particularly sensitive system. She also had bad eczema about a fortnight later. However subsequent doctors have dismissed this as pure coincidence and she was fine with her booster 6 months later.

Thanks for your well wishes LIZS, thankfully DS hasn't seemed poorly yet. I don't think I will sleep that well this evening, and his quite bad eczema and infection on his fingers only cleared up in the last week so I will be quite upset if this brings it back.

I held off with ds1 until he was two and he was fine.

But ds1 is just six months and he's had a rection to everyone of his jabs so I'm not sure about the MMR at all. After ds2's last jab he ended up in the hospital with the menengitis/septecemia rash. It appeared within four hours of the jab.

I don't have any advice, but I just wanted to say that I hope all goes well tonight.

AussieSim, We had our 15 month DTapHib today and for the first time ever I slept with the baby monitor on. I refused the MMR (for now) as I didn't want him to have 2 jabs at once in case he had a reaction and nobody knew which one to. Nurse wrote "WITH-HELD" on my Well Child book in really large letters which I thought was a bit off given he was only 15 months today, which gives me another 31 days to change my mind.

Could he be having a skin reaction to an ingredient - neomycin maybe? Given his skin problems maybe you could take him in tomorrow so they could check that it is a typical reaction and not coincidentally something else.

Toddlerbob (or anyone else with a view) I was planning to go to DS's dermatologist tomorrow anyway (unless he is feeling unwell and then we will have a quiet day) - do you think he would be the right person to talk with about it or should I go back to the Paed?
