Delaying a period for dd?

My dd11 is off on her school camp for a week after her SATS. Lots of water games, adventure stuff, swimming etc.

We've just worked out that she'll probably be on her period. Don't get me wrong, I'm all for just getting on with things - it's just that's she's fairly 'new' to periods. She's coped well so far, but she's obviously not using tampons yet and I think it may all be a bit awkward for her.

My friend says her older dd often asks her gp for a 'pill' that will delay her period for a week (she's does lots of swimming comps) but can't tell me the name of it. I've never heard of such a thing.

Is this a fairly common thing to ask for? I don't want my dd to miss out on all the swimming stuff.

It's called norethisterone, you take one three times a day for a few days before your period is due. Have a chat with your GP, mine was happy enough to prescribe it so I didn't have a period on holiday.

Thanks Cynara! Good to have a name. I never knew of such magic Wink. I shall enquire with the Gp.

I know! I can't believe I was 31 before I discovered it!

My daughters friend started her periods when she was 10 and I know she was given something to delay her period when they were going on holiday.
Like you I am one for saying get in with it, but it is a lot for an 11 year old to deal with whilst on a holiday away from you.
I certainly would try to delay period if it was my daughter, she hasn't started yet, but as she is 12 I guess it will be fairly soon.

I used it last July when I went on holiday. Periods went back to normal afterwards.
Are her periods regular? You take it on the day before or the day you're due and they only give you enough tablets for the amount of days you want to delay.
