Help - toenail fell off now what (with pic sorry)

After being badly bruised my toenail fell off the other day.

Underneath is half a new nail but it appears to be growing back into my toe! It's grim and a bit sore.

If anyone has ever had this can you help? Will it sort itself out or do I need medical intervention.

Hope picture explains what I'm on about....it's like the top of the nail doesn't have an end, it goes back under the skin

It will sort itself out. Ds thumb nail fell off and other than keeping clean (bandage with padding and tape) was fine. Same with dh toe nail actually!

Mine did exactly the same after I ran the London marathon years ago! Both big toes actually. They grew back absolutely fine, aren't any different now than before.

Did they feel that they were growing back into your toe at first too?

Takes about 6 months but will be fine.

When you say 'growing back into your toe' do you mean down the sides? Like an ingrowing toenail?

If so, I'd soak it in warm water and gently push the skin back and then I'd really hope that had fixed it. Ingrown toenails hurt!

My middle toenail has done the same but repeatedly, grows back then drops off again.

My big toe nail has done this twice ( both times related to ultra long fell races) it looks ok but it is a bit weak I expect it will come off again if do another silly long run.

No it's not growing in at the sides, but at the top. As in the bit you'd usually cut. It seems to go into the toe skin.

Yes mine grew back like that it will be fine

My big toenail fell off after wearing massive pointy high heels that were slightly too small for twelve hours . Was about two weeks later but it fell off!

Looked a lot like yours and did take a few months to grow back but it was fine.
