crackling noise in ear

The last couple of days I have a weird crackling creaking noise in one ear.

DH says "stick a cotton bud in it and have a good root"!

Any better advice?

It will be a build up of fluid behind the ear drum, kind of like glue ear. A cotton bud will not be helpful! This is very common after colds or with allergy sufferers. I've had it in one ear for 2 months now after a horrible flu virus. It will go away over time but using beconase nasal spray can help to speed up the process.
