Week 13: eat your wheaties

The Change:
Start every day with a healthy breakfast.

Roadmap for Success:
Eating a healthy breakfast sets the tone for your day. It helps you function optimally and encourages healthier habits throughout the day. To ensure that your breakfast is doing the best job it can for you and your health, follow these tips:
Make It Balanced: A healthy breakfast should contain lean protein, which helps to keep you satiated throughout the morning, and high-fiber carbohydrates, which provide you with energy, promote regularity, and keep you full. Good sources of lean protein include egg whites or eggs, low-fat or nonfat milk and yogurt, beans, and lean meat, such as Canadian bacon or ham. Good sources of fiber at breakfast include whole grain cereals and oatmeal, whole-grain bread, and fruit.
Shop for It: As you plan your grocery list for the week, make sure to plan for breakfast. Include foods that you know you’ll want to eat. And if your morning is typically rushed, look for fast options that are easy to prepare or carry with you, such as a piece of fruit and a low-fat Greek yogurt.
Schedule It: If you find it difficult to squeeze breakfast time into your mornings, start getting up fifteen to twenty minutes earlier to fit it into your day. Figure out what you plan on eating for breakfast the night before so that you don’t have to think about what to prepare in the morning.
Avoid Refined Sugar and Baked Goods: Many typical breakfast choices are overridden with sugar and refined flours and grains. Stay clear of cereals that are high in sugar, as well as bagels, pastries, donuts, muffins, and other baked goods made with refined flours. These are low in fiber and digest very quickly, causing blood sugar levels to spike, energy levels to plummet, and hunger levels to increase within only an hour or two of consumption.

Happy Easter to you too quirky Smile

I skipped breakfast (period pains) today, unless painkillers and water count, but will have a good breakfast tomorrow. I have bread, eggs, porridge, coffee, milk, lots of fruit and some chocolate. Not all at once though Grin

I'll start the new thread tomorrow but I think it's one that a lot of us will ignore again anyway.

DrDiva you on holiday now? Hope you have fun!

8FencingWire · 26/03/2016 17:02

I only had breakfast once this week. Today. About355959596959337 calories.

WhaleRider · 26/03/2016 17:19

Fell off my TIO too. Self care going utterly pear-shaped at present. Many things suck at the moment. Sad

Not on holiday quite yet but trying to pack with an excitable 3yo is a lesson in dexterity!

OddSocksHighHeels · 26/03/2016 17:23

8 Grin what did you have?

Whale what's wrong? Anything we can help with?

DrDiva · 26/03/2016 18:44

Argh forgot to change name back. Just as well I don't work for MI6, I'd be crap!!
I'm ok thanks oddsocks just a blip I guess. A holiday can only help!

Sirona · 26/03/2016 21:12

Yes happy Easter to you all.

Hope the holiday helps with the stress DrDiva Flowers. A week of sun and space from home may just be what the doctor ordered.

I am now regretting chucking my deep filled one awholelotta. Why don't they explain in the instructions all the delicious things you can make with them? I have a food processor to buy next on the kitchen gadgets as I managed to burn mine out making gingerbread at Christmas and still haven't got round to replacing it. I'm safe for the time being :)

Quirky you are putting me to shame!! I grabbed a banana and coffee for breakfast this morning as we were up late and I had a gym class to go to :)

Fry 8 Grin?

8FencingWire · 26/03/2016 21:18

Weeellll, you know when your job is really stressfull and demanding and you're stuck indoors working whilst your family is out celebrating? And it's the weekend? And you know your shift is going to be hell??? I stopped at the Lidl bakery. £4.50 buys you an awful lot of pastries, I tell ya! Ate the lot, me and some others.

DrDiva · 26/03/2016 23:01

I haven't made it to Lidl yet - slightly out of my way here. This may be a good thing, as I am supposed to be low carbing. On the other hand, 8 you are tempting me considerably! Grin hope the pastries were delicious!

Talking of bakeries M&S bakery do black forest cupcakes at the minute that I'm totally addicted to. I so miss black forest gateau on the menu everywhere.

They were still warm and some angel from the night shift dragged herself to leave us a big pot of fresh coffee. We scoffed the lot and didn't stop till gone two, rocket fuel.
Then went to our local indian and ate my weight in curry.
As soon as it stops pouring down, I'm going for a long runGrin

margaritasbythesea · 27/03/2016 07:50

Happy Easter all of you, those working, those on holiday those stressed out and those stuffed with pastries. Easter Smile

quirkychick · 27/03/2016 08:06

Sirina and Oddsocks my usual breakfast is a coffee in some form or another! The pancakes are for the dd's, as it's the holidays and they love them, my dds known in this house as the Pancake Queens! I make a double batch, as I can reheat them for the next day or freeze. I think they're healthyish as made with buckwheat flour and flaxseeds, but are cooked in butter.

I am particularly eating breakfast this week as period from hell... it's been 85 days between periods Shock, so goodness knows how long it's going to last. Trying to eat breakfast, so I don't feel too sick/faint, but it's a bit challenging on the exercise front as I feel heavy, sore, crampy. Still, lots of chocolate around this holiday Smile. Trying to motivate myself to do some yoga, now.

quirkychick · 27/03/2016 08:07

I mean Easter Smile
