Marijuana smell - effect on baby

We live in a flat. We don't know our upstairs neighbour that well but he seems like a nice bloke.

I think he smokes weed maybe a couple times a week and when he does, some areas of my flat smell like weed. It's not coming in the window vents because when I open the window it smells fresh outside, not 'weedy'. I think he's smoking indoors and it's permeating through our ceilings. The smell alone does not really bother me but I am concerned about any negative impact on our health particularly that of my 8mo DS.

If I can smell weed does that mean smoke is entering my home? I know second hand smoke is harmful. Or is it just the smell, and is this harmful?

I've got no idea I'm afraid but I've wondered the same thing when my DSS smoked it in the house once.

No smelling weed is just that, like smelling a rose but smelly.

A couple a week in a different flat would be really unlikely to permeate your flat but I would stick a note through his door

My entire street stank of weed for the first 2 years of DDs life, she survived. I don't think the smell is going to harm her, but I'd be more pissed off than you are, when you live in a block of flats you have to have some extra consideration for your neighbours, tell him to bog off outside with his weed. It could then come through the window instead of course.

Thanks all - I'm less annoyed than I would normally be because he's sold his flat so shouldn't be for much longer. Yeah I did think about asking him to go outside but then I think it would come through baby's window vents.
He might smoke more often than twice a week but maybe has heavy sessions twice a week which makes my flat smell? Or maybe he's growing cannabis

Growing I would worry about but not the smoke from his flat

I did a posting to an Afghan village massive weed growing one, I mean massive and none of the babies there or kids suffered ill effects from the crops.

Smoke is harmful but the smell isn't. My dd's bedroom stinks of weed in the summer, I suspect neighbours grow it and store it in the attic. I quite like the smell, reminds me of childhood

I should say I would worry about growing in the UK because of the dodgy wiring and overload on electricity not the weed.

Thanks Lego! My DS has always been a pretty good sleeper and last night during another stink-a-thon I said to DH in hysteria "maybe he's been stoned all this time!!!"

Sorry, but I would not tolerate weed or the smell of it anywhere near my children.

And that's your choice. But cannabis is just a plant, the smell is not intrinsically evil or harmful, and won't make op's baby high! It's fine to say you wouldn't tolerate it and it's also fine to like the smell.

Er no Fantine. My first and foremost concern was, does the fact I can smell weed mean smoke is coming in, therefore potentially harmful to DS? If so, I would obviously act on it

Why would you worry about the growing? Im concerned because my sons babysitters husband grows inside the house and my son has been sick for 3 weeks in a row now.
