I was with my sister today and her niece has been complaining on and off about her fanjo itching. Recently she has started crying when she goes for a wee - saying there are needles in her fanjo

They went to the doctor yesterday who said it should go away and to take a sample if still there after three days. It is quite sad as she gets upset if she needs a wee and for a while would only wee in teh shower, but will now go if they pour water down there whilst she does. She also has a temperature. seems tired and under the weather.

To me this seems like a urinary tract infection and / or thrush - but my daughter never had anything like this - I wondered if anyone else had had a simliar experience as I want to be able to understand a little more about what is happening.

Thanks everyone!

sounds just like an infection
i would be going STRAIGHT back to GPs (another dr if necessary) with a sample and for ask for anti-biotics!

its very important to catch infections asap so it doesnt travel up and infect the kidneys

thank you nanny - that sounds quite serious, why wouldn't the doctor have picked up on it?

Am worried now.

dd had this problem (no temperature but sore fanny when weeing) but seemed happier after a day of cranberry juice. It's very important to teach girls to wipe front to back. Also no weeing sitting down in the bath - I remember reading that somewhere ... good luck.

I'd definitely go back - it sounds as though it is something that needs treating with medication not time. Maybe you can see what NHS direct say?

Oh bless her sounds like a urine infection. Cranberry juice is good at preventing -antibiotics will clear it quicker.

Was there any sign of blood / discolouring in the urine?(hard to say when flushed away in shower!) - needs urgent attention if there was/is.

oh and thank you everyone who took the time to reply (manners dimple!) - I think you are right about the infection and will persuade them to revisit the doctor.
