talk to me about (moon)cups

ok so since having my DS 5 years ago i have been unable to wear tampons. they must sit on old scar tissue (had some tearing and scaring as a result of being sewn up) and is so uncomfortable i cant stand to wear one for more than 20 mins then give up. I've tried using applicators but still cant to get them to sit any higher to avoid the scar tissue.

Talk to me about the various cups. am i likely to have the same issue with it sitting on the scar tissue? do they sit higher/same place? I dont really want to go out and spend £20 on a faddy item that i will try, hate/cant wear then have it sit in the draw.

I love my mooncuo. Wish I'd got one sooner, frankly. I find it very comfortable, and the amount of money saved on sanctity products is not to be sniffed at.

I believe they do sit lower than tampons do, so could be worth a try.

I have a mooncup but have only really had four or five periods in the last few years between pregnancy and breastfeeding. I absolutely love it - I find it much more comfortable than tampons and more convenient. In my relatively limited experience, it takes a little practise to get inserting it right, but once you've cracked it, it's brilliant. You don't get the dragging sensation you can with tampons - not sure if this is the kind of pain you experience with your scar tissue? I haven't tried any of the different brands so couldn't comment on those I'm afraid.

I love mine! The rim sits right up the top around your cervix, maybe look into different sorts of cups and choose a shorter one so its not on the scar tissue low down. There's a great photo somewhere of all the different types of cup side by side so you can compare sizes I'll see if I can find it for you. I've cut the stem completely off mine and it's so much comfier

The Mooncup should not be by your cervix, they are designed to sit low, just inside your vagina. From their website: 'The Mooncup needs to be placed as low (nearer to the entrance) in the vagina as possible'.

I have just started using one and love it.
It only took a few goes to get the hang of it.

Oh yeah, think I had read that but didn't seem right to me/for me. Couldn't quite get the vacuumy seal effect down there.

This is the picture I was thinking about, the meluna shorty might work well for you. I have a large size lunette.

I've just looked on the lunette website and you are completely right nightwish, I didn't know that if the rim or mine isn't right up by my cervix then the bottom pretty much sticks out I must have a short vagina

If you have a tendency towards cystitis and have ever used a diaphragm/cap have you ever noticed or tracked that it's worse when you use a cap than not? If yes, then a cup may not be for you.

Flighty I am terribly prone to cystitis / UTIs and I don't have a problem with my cup, although sometimes I can feel it pushing against my urethra as I push it in

You might want to think about another cup and not the mooncup - it is quite firm and has a rim so if you have scar tissue it might rub on it. I wasn't so keen on my one but bought a femmycycle and it is so much better for me. Maybe look at the ones without rims?
