Anyone had sinusitis?

Hi - I have just had a horrible cold which has gone in to my sinuses and has now plugged my ears. In the early hours of the morning the throbbing and thumping around my face is immense and I take 400mg of pills but they don't help. Has anyone any advice how I can get rid of this? I had sinusitis as a child and I remember it went ok for months which I really don't want to happen now. Thanks !

I've had sinusitis for years and am finding the saline nasal sprays to be the most successful thing that I've done. Vicks and Sterimar make one.

Also go onto YouTube and look for vids which explain how to drain your sinuses. It relieves the pressure and pain.

You need antibiotics. This is an infection of your sinuses, if it really is sinusitis (-it is means 'infection of'). You must be in agony.

No, 'itis' just means inflammation

You only need antibiotics if you're systemically unwell.

I'm suffering at the moment. I'm steaming with menthol crystals, sinus rinsing, taking ibuprofen and using beconase. I think it is slowly improving. I just want to be able to move my head without pain and taste things again!

I would suggest using a neti pot
(just google if you dont know about them :) )

I had these for years. The things that helped were: consuming large quantities (all at one time) of warm water (to rehydrate everything and get the snot (apologies) moving & also ibuprofen.

during the day I'd drink Lemsip Max. Sometimes things improved but other times I'd need antibiotics from the GP

hiddenhome is right about the saline sprays. Also, my gp prescribed flixonase (I think it has a steroid in it and may be available over the counter)
