If not, why is DS2 coughing his delightful little guts up every 5 mins?

Any remedies?

Yep, a stonking one, ds (7 mo) is getting over it, dd2 (nearly three) has it plus a temp of 39 and dh has it too.

The only relief we've found is from going into a steamy room, and Tixylix Chesty Cough mixture.

Oh thank you, n3!

We only have one of those old-fashioned sticky brown cough medicines atm, plus sipping nice cold water. DS2 is 13 - so technically grown-up nearly - but still just sits coughing helplessly until I shout at him "drink some water!"

Will try some chesty cough mixture on Tuesday

Same here JanH. We're all better now but about 2 weeks ago we were taking turns to to be ill - and it all started with a cough.

It was an odd mixture of a chesty and a dry cough. Most peculiar.

Hope ds gets better soon.

MerlinsBeard · 31/12/2006 22:30

yep, steamy room, scarf on and hot lemonjelly (as liquid not jelly)

JanH · 31/12/2006 22:33

Thanks, guys, he is going to sit in the shower room in a minute with the shower running on hot!

My son has bronchiolitus (not sure if that's spelt right) and was given an inhaler (not steroid based) to help ease the cough?! This is apparently going around and can be very nasty in some babies - might be worth a trip to the docs if DS2 is really bad?

Freckle · 02/01/2007 16:26

Yes, and I've got it! Started out as tonsilitis, developed into a chest infection and has resulted in a long-running and bl**dy annoying cough. Every time I think I've got rid of it, it suddenly comes back and keeps me awake at night.

It was quite a loose, mucousy cough to start with but has now become a very dry and painful one.

ledodgy · 02/01/2007 16:29

Yes, dd and ds have had exactly the same dd is better but ds is still coughing away.

JanH · 02/01/2007 17:05

Yours sounds terrible, Freckle - hope it stops soon.

DS2 is still coughing just as much (though seems well-ish), DS1 has now got it too and so has DD2 who was here at C'mas but is back in her uni house atm. It's a bugger and I'm hoping it will leave me alone as I haven't got time to be ill this month!

my two had this for blaaaaaardy ages

in the end, when dd was utterly exhausted during the day from coughing so much at night, I went to the chemist and got some Medised and it knocked her out and she slept really well. After that, she started getting better - I'm sure because she'd managed to get a rest!

now we all have colds (ggrrr!)

hope yours get better soon - it is SUCH a pain!

(oh, other helpful thing were those blackcurrant glycerine pastilles you get - chemist recommended them and they seemed to give temporary relief)

crazydazy · 02/01/2007 17:09

Both mine have it, it never goes away and it just flares up where they seem to cough for hours. We have had to get DD an inhaler although it hasn't helped that much as she only has mild asthma. I blame it on the central heating but honestly what can you do when its so bloody cold outside. We tried one day without heating and it was awful just used the fire in the living room and we were too cold to go anywhere else in the house.

Freckle · 02/01/2007 17:17

Right - note to self, must get some Medised!

Bgger, already had two glasses of wine (I know, I know - it's early and I should be fed up with alcohol after the amount I supped on NYe, but, in my defense, it is* my Dsis's birthday....), so can't drive to chemist. Cough, cough.

iota · 02/01/2007 17:19

I took a dose of medised myself last night and I had a hot toddy as well - have got the cold and sore throat from hell at the mo

fullmoonfiend · 02/01/2007 17:26

me too, have ebven resorted to papillon's odd remedy of drinking water an onion has been boiled in..(not as grim as it sounds.) Will let you know...I'm so tired from coughing.
