Uveitis .... any experience?

Dd 22 is having her second episode of uveitis in a month. She has to go back to the eye clinic tomorrow and expect that she will have more steroids to treat it.
Is it likely that she will continue to have episodes? I read that it's usually associated with auto immune disorders, she had an episode of alopecia last year that is also thought to be an auto immune response.
My worry is that my sister has progressive MS and this might be a marker for that,should I be worried?

I had 2 or 3 episodes, with recurrences within a few weeks, about 10 years ago. They all cleared up with steroids, and I was under the care of the Hospital. I was also told about the auto-immune link, but I have no other a-I conditions that I know of.

I wore extended wear contact lenses at the time. Although my optician and Ophthalmic consultant said that contacts would not affect my eyes, I have had no more attacks since I stopped wearing Contacts.

I get attacks of it and have crohns disease..am treated with constant steroids.

My 15 year old has had anterior uveitis. She has been to.d it's likely she will have another episode. She is also a steroid responder so they have to check her eye pressure during treatment.

Make sure she weans the steroids drops down in accordance with the advice given, stopping them too quickly can cause it to flare again,

I had it twice in 6 months but that was 18 years ago and I still wear contact lenses,
I have no idea why it occurred and reoccurred but it's never happened since, thank goodness

It depends on the uveitis but some genetic types are more likely to recur. I'm curious she is having her "second episode in a month", that is a very short timeframe - had she been checked and confirmed to be cell free after the first flare up or was it under treated/medication not properly tapered?
Mine has burbled on and off for about 8 years now. I always hope I'll get there.
It is commonly seen alongside inflammatory arthritis or Crohn's but not heard about a link with MS.

That's what I wondered caved, as dd treatment is 4 weeks long. (Might be 5 weeks, it's all written down on the calendar)

Numerous episodes of uveitis and iritis here, starting in my early twenties. I was tested for, and X rayed for various diseases when it became clear that the problem was recurrent, but at the time nothing showed up.

I continued to have attacks over the years (think I went 4 years without an episode which was the longest stretch) then two years ago, after an unconnected illness, I was diagnosed with sarcoidosis and told that over the years I'd lost 30% lung function.

My consultant believes that the uveitis was a symptom so I'd advise that if it continues, she pushes for investigation.

Sympathies to her, it's a rotten enough pain in the ass condition to suffer regardless

I've had bouts of iritis since I was 18, about every 6 months. Now I keep some steroid drops at home and start then when I notice the first sign of a flare up. It's a nasty condition but easily manageable once you know how. Sympathies to your dd. In my case I have a genetic marker HLA b27 which is associated with iritis and other auto immune conditions. I also have spondylitis and used to suffer terribly with mouth ulcers.

Thanks everyone,at the last bout the hospital doctor prescribed steroid eyedrops for two weeks and then discharged,this time a different consultant has prescribed them as you described earlier so 3 days of drops every two hours,a week of six times a day and then reducing each week so hopefully it will get rid of it properly this time.
The last consultant seemed really irritated and short with dd (the optician sent her to the eye hospital) this new one was much nicer, explained everything (the GP sent her this time) and wants to see dd in a fortnight so hopefully it might be the last bout but if not at least we have a name to ask to be referred to now.

Ah no wonder it returned. Hope this sorts it for good
