Diabetes test results help please.

I had gestational diabetes when I was pregnant with my youngest DS who is now 7. They suspect I had it with my eldest as well but was never tested.
he hospital did warn me it may rear it's ugly head again in the future...
My GP sent me for a G.T.T. test but the results came back inconclusive so I am going for another in a couple of weeks.
I still have my unit from when I used to do my checks whilst pregnant. I fasted last night, did my bloods and the fasting result was 8.4 (always had high fasting readings while pregnant), then I drank 410ml of Original Lucazade , waited 2 hours then did my bloods again - 9.1.
I have looked up these results online and it seems I am getting a 'diabetic' reading for my fasting and an 'Impaired glucose tolerance' for my second result.
Does that seem right and what does it mean?

DP reckons that's borderline- i.e. needs looking at but not a rush to the hospital right this minute job.

Also says your blood sugar can go up a bit if you are or have recently been ill.

These are the official UK diagnosis guidelines
In a nutshell more than 7.1 mmol/l fasting or more than 11.1 mmol/l 2 hours after a 75g glucose load means you have diabetes. However it has to be a blood sample from a vein, done in a lab, you can't diagnose on a fingerprick the meters are just not accurate enough.

Oh and you have to have 2 positive tests for it to be a diagnosis. Please try not to worry, Type 2 diabetes is not the end of the world (neither is Type 1) and can be very well managed with diet and lifestyle changes

Your blood sugar after lucozade was very low.
Lucozade is 51 carbs per 330 ml bottle and 15 per 100 ml.
You had about 66 carbs. That's more a days worth of carbs in one sitting.

If I have a hypo, with a blood sugar of 3, (4-7 being normal) they recommend 100 ml to bring your blood sugar back up to normal. If I drank 430 ml, my blood sugar would be sky high 15-17 easily.

What are they suggesting is the next step for you?

When DS1 was diagnosed aged 10 his level was 28 via a bloodprick.

From talking to the Diabetes team - your level seems a little high to me but I am no expert and so I would definitely get it checked out.

I hope it isn't diabetes though.

Your results suggest you are pre-diabetic, so you are in a position with significant lifestyle changes to avoid going on to get type 2 diabetes. Which is to be avoided if at all possible, yes can be managed but a nasty, progressively worsening condition so avoid it if you can!

Exercise, eat well, reduce alcohol etc, all the obvious stuff am sure you're aware of but do it in earnest now.

You can't comparethe meter readings with blood readings for diagnostic purposes. You need a fasting glucose and 2 hour done again on venous blood but it does sound as though you are at risk so get your weight down if needed and modify your lifestyle and you can reverse these changes.

I have another GTT test booked for a few weeks time... Hopefully if it is anything then it's pre diabetic and with some changes it will keep it under control.
My doc mentioned maybe I was glucose intolerant .
