When will her eating calm down

DD had a tummy bug before half term and didnt eat for 5 days, since then shes constantly hungry. She also only wants cold food. This wont go on forever will it. Shes 8 by the way.

My guess would be if she didn't eat well for 5 days..then it'll take her 5 days to catch up. That's just going on what happens in my house!

Shes had all of half term to catch up, she stopped eating the Thursday before. Thanks for your reply.

Actually, correction, 2 Thursdays before, so she started eating again the following Wednesday.

It seems to have calmed down now, but she still wants supper as soon as she gets in the door and will only eat cold food when not at school (compulsory school lunches).

There will come a time where you will need to start treating her "only cold food" like a fussy eater.
If she's eating hot food at school then it's not sensory. It's not a real issue.

What is it about the "cold foods" you give her that she likes? That she can eat them immediately/no waiting?

Slow cooker may be your friend. Leave dinner cooking and say "it's stew for tea. Invite her to wait for it to go cold before eating it"
Or serve hot food and let her wait to eat it cold.

I wouldn't worry at this point about her eating for Britain tbh.

Could the cold food thing because she has created a link in her head between her tummy bug and a hot meal she had? My son wouldn't drink smoothies (one of his fave breakfasts/ snacks) for ages and ages after having a vomiting bug as that was something he had and was sick promptly after.

I gave him a few weeks then gave him one when thirsty and engrossed in something, and that got him over his aversion. Tbh there are some things I cannot enjoy any more after an association with an awful bout of vomiting!

I wonder if she had some residual gastritis following her bug. Eating can sooth it temporarily, Id imagine cold food would be more soothing too.

Honestly, now. But I have no patience for fussiness. Yes I appreciate that our systems need a little while to recoop after being unwell. Cold food is a new one on me but she is eating hot food at school.

She is eating hot food.

Therefore it isn't a problem.

Ignore and treat her as normal methinks.

Well that makes sense BadKitten, she says hot food makes her tummy feel "bobbly".
