Sub-total hysterectomy

I've had fibroids and very heavy periods for some years now, and having explored every other avenue, Mirena, anti inflammatory tablets, Esmya etc I'm now booked in for a sub-total hysterectomy in March, just my uterus being removed. I think I'm looking for any positive stories from others who've done this. The thing I'm most worried about is how it might affect my sex drive, and going through the menopause, on the other hand it will be great to have the freedom of no period flooding in the future.

Seriously, I have no regrets at all. Mine was total and I've had no problems. The respite from the pain etc. is extraordinary and I felt (straight away) as though someone had given me my life back.

Agree, best ever for me too, after years of pain and ridiculous bleeding I am now free! Still overweight but I am now in complete control of my body, I feel good all the time, it is like being given a new life. I had massive fibroids and had completed my family so it was an easy choice for me.

To be fair the recovery was tough I took 3 months off work in recovery, then went on holiday to Florida! which was a slight mistake, but I learnt to take it easy whilst everyone else rushed around. Plus I keep my ovaries so no menopause for me yet.

Agree with the others, had mine 5 months ago and it's been fantastic. Quick recovery, no more dealing with the floods, I can get on with my life. Best decision I ever made

Thank you, so reassuring to hear such positive stories, but, what about sex drive after, any different?

Better than ever

If you keep your ovaries which you will do then how can your sex drive be affected?

The stats do say though that any kind of hysterectomy can bring on an earlier menopause.
